3rd Federico Gómez Suárez Scholarship Edition
The main purpose of Fundación Federico Gómez Suárez is to enable outstanding students to have the necessary support to carry out their studies in technology, seeking to solve social problems through the knowledge acquired in one of the institutions of higher education with which it has agreements.
Through this scholarship, young people from the School of Engineering are encouraged to achieve the development of their professional capacity and to enhance their contribution to the world by applying the knowledge acquired during their training.
Federico Gómez Suárez, graduated with a degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the Universidad de las Américas Puebla. During his professional career he always showed his passion for using technology to help, so all his activities inside and outside his work life were dedicated to help children.
The Gomez Family honors Federico's memory by supporting the training of university students to continue the legacy of “using knowledge gained to improve the world we live in.”.
In this 3rd edition 2023, the Fundación Federico Gómez Suárez is pleased to award 3 equal scholarships, that is, there will be no 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, in the amount of 5,000 USD (five thousand US dollars) each, which will be transferred directly to the bank statement of the university where the winners are studying. The scholarships will be used only for the winners' tuition or any other academic procedures that may be required.

Call for applications
- Have volunteered in social causes (foundations, NGO's, focus groups, public health institutions, among others).
- English B2 or higher according to the Common European Framework - IELTS or TOEFL IBT certification required.
- To be a student from 5th semester onwards of the Faculty of Engineering and have at least 10 missing courses.
- Academic excellence (minimum cumulative grade point average of 9.0). Participation in honors programs, recognitions, extracurricular programs, entrepreneurship simulators, among others, will be considered a plus in the evaluation.
- Do not have more than 50% of academic scholarship or have any other type of scholarship or financial support in force at the date of registration.
- Not to have failed any subject during the course of studies nor to have incurred in any violation of the institutional regulations.
- Submit all documents requested by the FGS Foundation (For more details, please refer to the “Student File” section).
- Write a 1500 - 2000 word essay developing a project focused on the FGS Foundation's “TechForGood” movement (For more details, see the “TechForGood Project” section).
Instructions
The application process consists of a preliminary process, a qualification process by stages in the competition for the project applied for, and an award ceremony for the scholarship winners.
Preliminary process
Students must submit by e-mail to the area in charge of their university, all the documents (in a ZIP folder) described in the following sections: Student File and TechForGood Project. The universities will be in charge of carrying out an internal filter where they will verify that the registered students comply with everything requested and if everything is in order, they will provide an institutional seal on the first page of the student's file. This institutional seal will serve as an entry pass to officially participate in the complete process of the FGS 2023 scholarship.

Qualifying stages
Stage 1 - TechForGood Project + Student File
From June 1 to June 17, 2023, the jury will begin to score the TechForGood Project along with the Student File in order to select the candidates who will move on to the next stage, who will be contacted via email where they will be provided with all the necessary information for the Second Stage - Personal Interview. The jury will be composed of a group of professional experts in technology, sustainability, innovation, programming and business.
Will be taken into account: Quality, originality, structure, justification of the social problem, application of technology or engineering knowledge, feasibility with small financial analysis, action plan, motivation letter and evidence of voluntary participation.
Stage 2 – Personal Interview
From June 21 to June 30, 2023The selected candidates will proceed to the second stage which consists of an individual interview (online via Zoom), in English (30 minutes max.) where they will have to create a PowerPoint/Prezi/Canva type presentation of maximum 4 slides. Candidates will have the opportunity to use this presentation to introduce themselves to the Foundation and explain the reason for their project using their letter of motivation. There will be a space for questions from the jury to learn more about the candidates and clarify any doubts that may arise.
Candidates selected for the next stage will be contacted by e-mail where they will be provided with all the necessary information for the Third Stage - Assessment Center.
Will be taken into account: Clarity of the English language, diction, vocabulary, content of the answers to the questions the candidate will be asked, motivation, professionalism, etc.
Stage 3 - Assessment Center
From July 3 to July 7, 2023, the selected candidates will pass to the third stage, which consists of an Assessment Center that will be carried out in person in the city of Puebla by a specialized consulting firm. On the day of the Assessment, a welcome will be given in which instructions will be given and through different phases will be detected skills of a member of the FGS community, such as: leadership, teamwork, social proactivity, human values, among others. There will be 3 expert evaluators in training, human resources and business recruitment.
General information: Candidates should dress comfortably, wear a mask and arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled time. The exact place, date and time will be provided by e-mail. All support material will be provided by the consultant and the Foundation.
Note: Candidates must confirm 3 days in advance and guarantee their attendance on the day of the Assessment Center. In case of informality on the part of a candidate, he/she will be automatically disqualified, giving the opportunity to the next candidate according to the qualification obtained in the second stage.
Stage 4 - TechForGood Pitch
From July 10 to 14, 2023, the semi-finalists of the Assessment Center will move on to the final stage, which will be given in person, which consists of presenting a PITCH to defend their TechForGood Project. The interview will begin with the candidate's participation, which should last a maximum of 5 minutes using a PowerPoint/Prezi/Canva presentation of no more than 4 slides and saved on a USB flash drive. If necessary, it will be possible to attend with your own laptop for any problems that may arise. After the PITCH, the forum will be opened to a round of questions from the jury where the candidate will have to answer concisely and demonstrate that he/she has a high level of knowledge according to the technological solution proposed. A maximum of 30 minutes per finalist will be allotted.
General information: Finalists should wear formal attire, coveralls and arrive 20 minutes prior to their interview. The exact place, date and time will be provided by e-mail. It will also be possible to present any type of visual material: posters, canvas holders, prototypes, etc.
Will be taken into account: Professionalism, clarity of the project, creativity, compliance with the guidelines of a PITCH, project defense, motivation, justification of the proposed technology, congruence of the answers to the jury's questions, etc.
Note: It is the obligation of the candidates to confirm 3 days in advance and guarantee their attendance on the day they have been assigned. In case of informality on the part of a candidate, he/she will be automatically disqualified, giving the opportunity to the next candidate according to the qualification obtained in the third stage.
Winners
The qualifying jury will deliberate on the three winners in the following days. The decision will be made in writing and the winners will be notified by e-mail.
Awards Ceremony
It will be held in person on July 19, 2023. Winners must wear formal attire, coveralls and arrive 20 minutes before the agreed time. Likewise, they may invite whoever they wish with a maximum of 3 people per winner. It is the obligation of the candidates to confirm 3 days in advance and guarantee their attendance the day of the ceremony.
Additional information
After the award ceremony, the winners must show a desire to excel in all their academic activities, as well as have the desire to leave a mark that will help their community. Likewise, they must be willing to belong to the community and contribute their knowledge to others, offer their help at all times, contribute to the Foundation's activities, practice and share human values and keep in mind that they represent the Foundation on a daily basis, so they must take care of their behavior, attitudes, etc.
Note: Upon receiving the scholarship, the winning student will not be able to participate in subsequent broadcasts.
TechForGood Project
The TechForGood project is an essay of between 1500 and 2000 words that applicants should develop with the intention of continuing Fede's work, therefore the paper should address the following topic:
How can the use of technology contribute to solve a social problem in Mexico focused on children?
The TechForGood project should be related to one of the following 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Organization.

Federico Gómez Suarez Scholarship Benefits
Recipients of the FGS 2023 scholarship will receive the following benefits:
- The scholarship may be used to cover the winner's tuition at:
- Regular terms (fall or spring semester) at the university where you are studying.
- Summer terms at the university where you are studying.
- A period abroad (one semester or one year) at a university that has an agreement with the university where you are studying.
- A diploma, course or academic certification from the university where you are studying.
- A postgraduate degree from the university where you are studying.
- The grant may be used for the purchase of:
- Any software license that is required as primary or secondary material and is supported by a professor or academic director.
- The scholarship may be used to cover the winner's college expenses such as:
- SEP Quota
- Titling process.
- ENACTUS México:
- Partnership with ENACTUS Mexico to promote the TechForGood project.
- Partnership with mentors belonging to the Mentoractus program of ENACTUS Mexico.
- Attendance at the Enactus Mexico 2023 National Competition.
Conditions for keeping the Federico Gómez Suarez Scholarship
- Sign the FGS 2023 community commitment letter.
- Maintain academic excellence (minimum cumulative GPA of 9.0) each semester until the end of the course.
- Not to leave the career or change to another one that does not belong to the School of Engineering. In case of doing so, the winner must reimburse the full amount of the scholarship.
- Only one career change will be allowed within the undergraduate programs of the School of Engineering.
- Not to change universities during the career.
- Collaborate and always be available when the FGS Foundation requires it.
- Spread the ideology of Federico Gómez Suárez with his classmates, friends, family and acquaintances.
- Help disseminate publications, blogs, videos and calls for proposals that arise through social networks and within the university.
- Act with honesty and fairness at another time.
- Avoid all acts that are prohibited by law. If the winner does so, he/she must repay the scholarship in full.
- Not to fail any subject during the course of studies nor to incur in any violation of the institutional regulations.
- Never use the name of the foundation to justify absences, falsehoods, rumors, among others.
Disclosure Agreement
The data contained in the information provided by the applicant are confidential and will be verified by both the host university and the FGS Foundation, so the applicant agrees to the strict veracity of the same, to provide true and complete information, so that any omission or inaccuracy in these will be sufficient reason for not considering the application valid to apply for the scholarship 2023.
